One of its most impactful efforts is its commitment to fundraising events like the upcoming Fil-Am Spring Fest 2025, which not only celebrate Filipino culture but also serve a higher purpose—supporting programs that uplift impoverished communities in the Philippines.

Fil-Am FEST Inc.’s Impact Through Fundraising

On May 31, 2025, Fil-Am FEST Inc. will host Fil-Am Spring Fest 2025 at Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia. This annual event is more than just a cultural festival—it is a vital fundraising initiative that allows the organization to support life-changing programs like International Care Ministries’ (ICM) Transform program, which helps thousands of families in ultra-poverty through livelihood training, health education, and faith-based guidance.

Beyond ICM’s Transform program, Fil-Am FEST Inc. is also committed to supporting initiatives that address hunger and malnourishment, particularly among children in extreme poverty. Through partnerships with organizations dedicated to feeding the most vulnerable, Fil-Am FEST Inc. contributes to meal-packing programs, nutrition-focused outreach efforts, and direct food assistance initiatives that provide nourishment to those in desperate need.

By participating in or supporting Fil-Am Spring Fest, attendees are not only celebrating Filipino heritage but also contributing to a greater cause—providing hope, opportunities, and essential resources to those in need, including nutritious meals and sustainable food solutions for the ultra-poor.

A Vision Becomes Reality

For Alpha Opulencia, a dedicated Board Director of Fil-Am FEST Inc., this mission is deeply personal. Inspired by the impact of ICM’s work, she took the initiative to travel to Iloilo, Philippines, to personally witness and take part in the outreach efforts. Accompanied by a group of friends, Alpha set out on a journey not just to see the work being done but to connect with the people whose lives have been transformed by these initiatives.

As part of this heartfelt mission, special gifts from Fil-Am FEST Inc. officers were delivered to the community, symbolizing the generosity of the organization’s supporters. But beyond material aid, the true gift was the time spent engaging with the people, listening to their stories, and experiencing firsthand the resilience and faith that drive them forward.

Experiencing the Transform Program Firsthand

The Transform program by ICM is a four-month initiative designed to equip families living in extreme poverty with tools to improve their lives. By providing training in health, livelihood, and faith, it empowers individuals to break free from the cycle of poverty and build a sustainable future.

During her visit, Alpha and her team were warmly welcomed by the ICM Iloilo team, who gave them an immersive experience of what it means to live and thrive within a Transform-supported community. The day was filled with meaningful encounters and learning moments:

• Meeting the Savings Group – Alpha and her group were introduced to a community savings group, where families contribute small amounts to build financial security and invest in small businesses. Seeing how these savings provide a safety net for families reinforced the importance of economic empowerment.
• Participating in the Family Academy – They observed firsthand how ICM’s Family Academy educates parents on essential topics like health, nutrition, and responsible family planning. This initiative strengthens families by equipping them with knowledge that ensures a healthier and more stable future for their children.
• Interacting with Medical Care Beneficiaries – They met individuals who are part of ICM’s special medical care program, many of whom have received life-saving treatments they otherwise couldn’t afford. Hearing their stories highlighted how even small acts of giving can lead to life-changing impacts.
• Enjoying Cultural Performances – The visit was made even more memorable by a special performance from the ICM musical group, a showcase of talent, joy, and the resilience of the Filipino spirit.
• Walking in the Shoes of a Community Health Volunteer – One of the most humbling experiences was spending time with a Community Health Volunteer, learning about their vital role in educating and caring for their fellow community members. Through simple but essential training, these volunteers become frontline advocates for health and well-being.

Reflecting on her experience, Alpha shared her heartfelt thoughts, saying:
